DataLab Partners on new Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network
New Innovator Network series supports early-career researchers on path to entrepreneurship
DataLab has joined the UC Davis Innovator Network to host quarterly workshops on resources and pathways to entrepreneurship and innovation.
The Innovator Network workshop series introduces early-career researchers — graduate students, postdocs, faculty and staff — to peers who have launched entrepreneurial ventures in areas adjacent to academic research, and to connect them to campus resources that can support them on this journey.
Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025

Pizza and coffee will be served.
The series kicks off on Thursday, January 23, 2025 with Innovations in Human Health, featuring a panel of UC Davis scientists who have launched or are on track to launch human health products on their journey from health research to entrepreneurship:
- Dr. Carlito B. Lebrilla, professor of biochemistry and molecular medicine, who has founded multiple companies and is currently channeling his mass spectrometry research into identifying biomarkers for cancer;
- Dr. Ishita Shah, associate director of the Foods for Health Institute, whose research on antibacterial peptides in human milk in collaboration with Dr. Lebrilla and two other UC Davis professors, Dr. Bruce German and Dr. David Mills, led to them co-founding a company for bioactive milk; and
- Dr. Judith Van de Water, professor of medicine, whose immunology research led to developing a detection method for autism.
Participants at the January 23 event will also learn about the resources available to support them from ideation to launch, and meet representatives from the UC Davis Library, DataLab, Venture Catalyst, GradPathways, Mike and Renee Child Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Technology Transfer Office.
This event is free but space is limited. Learn more and register now to reserve your seat.
