Apply for the Lang Prize 2024!
GET RECOGNIZED FOR YOUR WORK ON AN DATA-INTENSIVE AND DATA SCIENCE PROJECTS
The UC Davis Library’s Lang Prize for undergraduate information research — which offers awards up to $2,000 — is now accepting applications for 2024. Undergraduates who have worked with a DataLab or another other library expert on a research project using data science are invited to apply.
Faculty and graduate students who teach or mentor undergraduates in computational and data-intensive research are likewise encouraged to mention the opportunity to students they work with who have completed a research project using library resources in Spring 2023, Summer 2023, Fall 2023, or Winter 2024.
“While many submissions in the past have been term papers and honors theses, we welcome research projects in many forms — software programs, art, media, data visualization and more. What we’re looking for is undergraduate research that demonstrates thoughtful use of UC Davis Library resources or expertise, which includes the library’s DataLab,” said Alesia McManus, the library’s head of Student Services and chair of the Lang Prize.
“Each year, our reviewers are excited to see the wide range of research topics that students have explored,” McManus added. “Seeing student projects that use different research tools and diverse forms of inquiry is equally exciting.”
The deadline to apply is Monday, April 1, 2024. To learn more about the prize and how to apply, visit the library website. If you have questions about the prize or your project eligibility, please check out the Lang Prize FAQ page or email langprize@ucdavis.edu.
