OpenStreetMap (OSM) is map of the world, like Google Maps, except it is a free, open geographic database updated and maintained by a community of volunteers via collaboration. Vanessa will demonstrate how you can edit data in OSM and be a contributor!

Speaker: Vanessa Knoppke-Wetzel, GreenInfo Network 

Vanessa Knoppke-Wetzel (she/her) is the Associate Director of GreenInfo Network, and has worked in the federal government, non-profits, tech industry, and higher education. She recently served as a Director at Large for the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS), where she chaired the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. She also is the founder of #creativeCarto, and one half of URhere podcast.

Location: This workshop will be presented remotely, but we’ll have a viewing option in the Seminar Room (room 1025) in the UC Davis PSEL (Physical Sciences & Engineering Library). Zoom details will be emailed upon registration for people wishing to attend online.

Prerequisites:  Create an OSM account at https://www.openstreetmap.org/ (Click “Sign Up” in the upper right corner of the website.)

Software: None; work is done in a browser. Please have a laptop or computer with a browser and an internet connection
