The UC Davis Library’s undergraduate student internship program is recruiting five students for the 2026-2027 academic year. These paid internships offer students hands-on opportunities to contribute to meaningful, project-based work that advances the library’s mission to foster learning, research, and discovery.

The internship cohort will develop valuable academic and professional skills through mentorship, collaboration, and project experience. The Library provides a supportive, structured experience emphasizing digital literacy, the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information effectively. This opportunity is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and eager to contribute to library projects while building knowledge and experience in a professional setting.


DataLab Internship

  • Interns are expected to start work the week of September 21, 2026.
  • Positions entail 10 hours/week paid work (STDT 3) for the entire 2026-2027 academic year.

Job Details

This internship position will be exposed to emerging technologies, technical topics and methodologies, and gain practical experience contributing to the Library’s data science and AI literacy goals by contributing to DataLab’s education and research initiatives. Specifically, the intern will gain experience in the development, maintenance and deployment of digital infrastructure for online publishing, supporting and enhancing the lifecycle of DataLab’s data, data science, and AI educational materials with an emphasis on improving digital accessibility. The intern will write content on data science and AI topics for diverse online audiences, translating complex research into accessible training modules, researcher spotlights, and project summaries. The intern will use collaborative and reproducible workflows to refine and produce content for multiple online platforms (GitHub, WordPress, Canvas, LinkedIn, etc.).

The intern will join a cohort of peers to develop valuable academic and professional skills through mentorship, collaboration, and project experience. The Library provides a supportive, structured experience emphasizing digital literacy, the ability to use information and communication technologies to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information effectively. This opportunity is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and eager to contribute to library projects while building knowledge and experience in a professional setting.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Help maintain DataLab’s digital educational materials and content to:
    • meet federal accessibility requirements
    • ensure consistent, up-to-date descriptions, branding and licensing
    • identify and fix typographical and technical errors
  • Translate and update DataLab’s legacy resources to new versions of publishing software (e.g., modern markup languages such as Quarto and Jupyter Book)
  • Engage with DataLab’s team and diverse learner populations to conduct reader content and UX reviews, and update online materials accordingly.
  • Create content for DataLab’s website and LinkedIn, including writing project summaries and spotlights for DataLab’s website. This includes conducting researcher interviews, literature reviews, and summarizing technical concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Help write documentation and develop strategy.

Job requirements

  • Must be enrolled as an undergraduate student at UC Davis
  • Academic major or career interest and relevant coursework aligned with the internship focus
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing
  • Ability to work with attention to detail
  • Ability to work both independently and with a diverse team
  • Ability to write about complex technical topics for diverse audiences
  • Experience working with word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., using the campus-licensed Google suite of tools – Google docs, sheets, slides, etc.)
  • Experience with or interest in learning basic principles of web design and accessibility standards
  • Experience with or interest in learning how to use WordPress
  • Experience with or willingness to learn unfamiliar technologies such as Unix command line, markdown, version control software (git) and platforms (GitHub), and book publishing software (Quarto, Jupyter Book)
  • Experience with or willingness to learn how to use AI-tools, including the campus licensed Google Gemini product

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior coursework in science and technology studies, and/or a related discipline
  • Experience in science communication and/or writing about complex technical topics
  • Experience with accessibility principles in content creation and web design
  • Demonstrated ability to use the technologies listed above for file and system navigation, version control, online publishing and collaboration
  • Experience with web development
  • Experience with the R or Python programming languages
  • Active LinkedIn user
  • Prior research experience in any domain
