DataLab Faculty Affiliates Receive NIH Grant to Develop AI for Predicting the Risk of Atrial Fibrillation
Study aims to better predict people at risk for progression of AFib and those who will benefit most from specific treatments
DataLab is part of an interdisciplinary multi-institutional team of physician scientists, cardiologists, computer scientists and data scientists seek to advance patient health through a new study on atrial fibrillation (AFib), the condition of an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm, aided by the development of emerging Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies.
AFib is the most common type of treated heart arrhythmia, affecting nearly 40 million individuals worldwide, and predisposing those it afflicts to increased risk of stroke and heart attack.
Through the awarded $4 million, 5-year grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the team will use AI to better predict who is at risk for progression of AFib and who will benefit the most from specific treatments.
Congratulations to the grant leads, DataLab affiliates Drs. Uma Srivatsa, Nip Chiamvimonvat, and Vladimir Filkov!
