Get Started with Drones in Scientific Research (#maptimeDavis)

May 23, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Description: In this workshop, I will introduce drones as a research tool using real-world examples and how to get started from the ground up. I’ll cover permitting, licensing, equipment, training, UC rules and regulations, industry jobs, networking, and more. I’ll also lead participants in various drone software programs, from mission planning and autopiloting to mosaicking and georeferencing with sample datasets.

Learning Objectives: Participants will learn the tools and workflows for working with drones, and gain an understanding of the software for processing the imagery acquired.

Prerequisites: Participants should have a very basic familiarity with ArcGIS Pro.

Software: Participants wishing to follow along should have either ArcGIS Pro installed on their computer or virtual lab access (through UC Davis: https://virtuallab.ucdavis.edu/), and Pix 4D Capture installed on your phone or tablet (tablet preferred). UC Davis affiliates can download ArcGIS Pro here: https://servicehub.ucdavis.edu/servicehub?id=content_details&sys_id=73c2bb751bfcc8903f4286ae6e4bcb49
