Computational Pedagogy Meetup
March 13, 2023 @ 2:10 pm - 4:00 pm
The Computational Pedagogy Research and Learning Cluster (RLC) coordinated by DataLab focuses on sharing and advancing pedagogy for hands-on instruction in practical, applied computational thinking.
Our Winter 2023 meeting will be on March 13. We will discuss and help iterate on interactive teaching demos provided by Professors:
– Titus Brown (VetMed): “Introduction to snakemake for automating sequence analysis”
– Emily Merchant (Science & Technology Studies): “Using computation to visualize social change”
– Seth Frey (Communications): “Teaching computational methods to non-computational students
Together, we will:
– Share and advance pedagogy for hands-on instruction in applied computational thinking.
– Reflect on how teaching data science does (or doesn’t) fit within existing scholarship on teaching and learning.
– Connect with other instructors from across campus teaching computational skills.
Anyone teaching courses or other training activities featuring hands-on computational skills is encouraged to participate. Please note that this RLC will focus on sharing strategies for computational skills training geared towards learners from traditionally non-data science majors.
Can’t make it in person? We’ll be using a meeting Owl with Zoom. Reach out to plreynolds@ucdavis.edu for the link.
